In-Person Lab Program Overview

The In-Person Lab Program helps students explore university research environments through guided preparation, structured pathways, and curated opportunities.

 

Depending on the lab, the student’s background, and institutional policies, experiences may include shadowing, lab visits, guided learning, short-term research exposure, or hybrid formats. 

 

The program currently includes a university placement pathway, and we are also developing a future Eureka-run lab format for students who want a more structured and scalable experience.

 

This program is designed to give students a clearer understanding of how research labs operate while helping them build stronger academic direction and future readiness.

NOTE

This program is structured and guided by the Eureka Program. We provide advisory support and guidance throughout the process, including preparation, outreach strategy, and communication. Lab opportunities are ultimately dependent on lab availabilities, institutional policies, and student fit.

University Placement Labs

Students apply to selected university labs with guided preparation and outreach support. Outcomes may include shadowing, observation, or short-term lab access depending on the professor, age requirements, and lab availability.

EARLY ACCESS

Eureka-Run Lab Program

A structured small-group program developed by the Eureka Program in collaboration with researchers. This pathway is in development and is designed to offer guided lab exposure, research learning, and flexible hybrid formats.

This student began with a strong interest in engineering, supported by early hands-on work in robotics and 3D printing.

Through the program, she completed two research projects with university mentors, one in astrophysics and one in materials science. In her first project, she worked with real observational data and participated in a remote telescope session connected to a research facility in Chile. In her second, she analyzed experimental lab data and developed a research paper that was later published.

She also expanded her experience beyond structured projects. She visited a professor’s lab at MIT and later joined a remote research effort connected to work in Chile, gaining exposure to how research operates across different environments.

By connecting these experiences, she developed strong skills in research, data analysis, and scientific writing, while building a clear academic direction.

Her work became a central part of her academic profile, contributing to admission offers from several top universities, including MIT, Carnegie Mellon, Tufts, Cornell, and the University of Michigan.

These experiences allowed the student to observe research environments, engage with ongoing work, and better understand how different labs operate. This pathway was not based on a formal program or placement, but on preparation, timing, and initiative, demonstrating how direct outreach can lead to meaningful research opportunities.

Application Requirements

​Students are expected to prepare a set of materials before beginning the outreach process. These materials help ensure that communication with labs is clear, professional, and aligned with the students’ academic interests and long-term goals.

 

Required materials include:

  • Completed application form

  • A clear statement of research interests

  • Personal statement outlining research goals and career objectives

  • Resume or CV (draft is acceptable)

  • Cover letter draft tailored to research outreach

  • Research portfolio, including any prior projects or independent work

  • Three references

 

These materials do not need to be finalized at the start. The program provides structured guidance to help students refine and strengthen each component before outreach begins.
