研究主题案例

The Inherent Differences Among Two Main Asian Cast Movies in Hollywood

This paper compares the movies "The Joy Luck Club" and "Crazy Rich Asians," which both feature full Asian casts in Hollywood. The author explores the motivations of the authors and directors of both films and finds that they share a similar wish for their movies. The theme of filial nationalism is intertwined through both movies in different ways, and their reception is influenced by the current political environment of America, where representation and anti-racism are more important than thirty years ago. The authors of both films wanted to connect with Asian American history and highlight the lack of representation and misrepresentation of Asians in Hollywood and the world. The author of this thesis wrote the paper while attending the Eureka program.
