PPE (Philosophy, Politics and Economics) and Law Program

Program Overview

Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) is an interdisciplinary field of study that combines the three disciplines of philosophy, politics, and economics. It seeks to examine the relationships between these three areas and how they intersect with each other. Jurisprudence is the theory of law—not of a particular body of laws but of law in general.

How have COVID-19 containment measures affected the US and Chinese economies?

This paper compares and contrasts the COVID-19 containment measures taken by the US and China, with a focus on their health, fiscal, monetary, and education policies. The author identifies successes and failures in each country's approach and suggests potential improvements. The research highlights that while both countries implemented extensive fiscal and monetary measures, China's public health and education policies were more effective, while America's approach was uncoordinated and marked by missteps. The author concludes that a coordinated worldwide effort is necessary to effectively combat a health crisis. The author of this thesis was an alumni of Eureka.

Honors and Awards

National Speech and Debate Association Public Forum Debate Team Awards

In Public Forum Debate, students work in pairs of two to debate both sides of a topic. Public Forum is one of the most popular events and is a great entry point for new students and judges. Topics are based on current events and change frequently, which gives students the opportunity to learn about a variety of subjects and keeps debates exciting and new. Students present prepared cases, then engage in rebuttal and questioning periods with limited prep. A Eureka alumni won "Triple-Octafinalist" in Harvard Debate Council High School Tournament.

National Merit Scholarship Program

The National Merit Scholarship is a highly competitive academic scholarship program for high school students in the United States. It is awarded based on a combination of academic achievement, extracurricular activities, leadership potential, and performance on the PSAT/NMSQT exam. A former participant of the Eureka Neuroscience Program has qualified as a semifinalist for this scholarship program.

US Presidential Scholars Foundation

The US Presidential Scholars program is one of the nation's most prestigious awards for high school seniors. It recognizes and honors graduating high school seniors who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, artistic excellence, leadership, citizenship, service to their community, and promise for future success. Each year, up to 161 students are selected as U.S. Presidential Scholars based on their academic and artistic achievements, leadership skills, community service, and other accomplishments. Eureka Alumni that received this award completed a research on "How does the mood and language of a song affect writing productivity?"
