Linguistics Program
Program Overview
Linguistics is the scientific study of language, and it involves analyzing and understanding the structure, meaning, and use of language in different contexts. Various subfields of linguistics include phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. The study also examines how language is acquired, processed, and used by both individuals and communities.
Linguistics majors have a diverse range of career opportunities available to them, including positions in academia, government, translation, business, and more. Previous Alumni of the Linguistics Program have secured positions and acceptances to the following firms/programs:

Many students from this program are also very engaged in their communities, sharing in volunteering activities and starting non-profit organizations to help the community. During COVID-19, several students have started organizations to help obtain and distribute health supplies. Community Activities
Tencent is a Chinese multinational technology and entertainment conglomerate and holding company headquartered in Shenzhen. It is one of the highest grossing multimedia companies in the world based on revenue. of our Eureka alumni from the Linguistics program secured an internship with Tencent as a Natural Language Processing intern.
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is a private land-grant research university in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Established in 1861, MIT has played a significant role in the development of many areas of modern technology and science. A Eureka alumni from the Linguistics Program was selected to study at the selective MIT Language and Math summer program.

Sign language is a visual language that uses a combination of hand gestures, facial expressions, and body language to communicate. It is used by deaf and hard-of-hearing people, as well as by those who can hear but may have difficulty with spoken language. There are many different sign languages around the world, with each country or region having its own unique sign language. Some of the most widely used sign languages include American Sign Language (ASL), British Sign Language (BSL), and Auslan (Australian Sign Language). A Eureka alumni from the Linguistics Program founded a Sign Language Society to foster an appreciation and empathy for sign language and its users.

Honors and Awards

In 2019, China formally joined the International Linguistic Olympiad (IOL), which opened a door for Chinese students to become global talents. This provided an opportunity for the selected participants who excelled in the NOL China region selection competition to compete and communicate with outstanding minds from various countries around the world. A Eureka alumni won in the top category.

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is a national program that recognizes and celebrates the creative achievements of young artists and writers in grades 7-12. It provides opportunities for exhibition, publication, and scholarship, as well as a platform for talented students to showcase their work to a wider audience. Several of Eureka Alumni from this program have received this award.
